  • As we said, the mix of edge rushers and defensive end are Tennessee football’s greatest needs outside of wide receiver for their 2020 class. And lucky for them, they have guys in both spots right in their backyard.

With Reggie Grimes, you couldn’t get a more obvious target. Grimes is a five-star recruit at outside linebacker. The 6’5″ 210-pound prospect already brings amazing height and athleticism to the position with another year to develop.

And he’s from the Nashville area in Mt. Juliet. As a result, everything is in place for Jeremy Pruitt and his staff to get an elite football player who could be the biggest splash pickup in the entire class for 2020.

Of the last three five-star prospects from Middle Tennessee, only one of them, Jalen Hurd, didn’t work out. And he was a power back the Vols were trying to force into a spread offense. Kyle Phillips finished his career strong, though, and Josh Malone was a huge get.

Tennessee football has a guy in Grimes who is a perfect fit for their system. He’s in-state, one of the most elite talents in the nation, and has a great chance to play early and thrive in Jeremy Pruitt’s system. There is no way the Vols can let this guy get out of the state, and that’s why he’s the top player on our list.
