There’s a lot of in-state talent for the Vols’ 2020 recruiting class, and Keshawn Lawrence is an easy target for Tennessee football to establish its local presence. A four-star athlete out of Nashville, Lawrence can play safety, wide receiver or cornerback.

However, his primary position is safety. That works well for Jeremy Pruitt because, despite his recruiting efforts, he still won’t have a lot of proven talent there in the coming years. Nigel Warrior is the only proven guy returning, and he’ll be gone next year. Trevon Flowers could be more useful at nickel. As a result, Pruitt should still go for some safety help on the recruiting trail.

At 6’2″ 186 pounds, Lawrence provides that help. He’s got great size and clearly very solid athleticism, so he fits the exact profile of a player Pruitt would want to recruit for his defense. And Rocky Top appears to be a favorite as a landing spot for him at this point.

As a result, Lawrence clearly belonged on this list. UT will have to fight with every elite southern school under the sun to get him, but he would help open up competition at defensive back in 2020 and beyond, and that is a huge deal.
