This was one of those games where his team put on a fun performance. Not only was this an upset over the No. 2 ranked team, but it also was a win defined by an epic finish, and that’s why it’s so high up here.

The Vols were 11-13 entering the game with nothing to play for, which was normal at this time under Wade Houston. Kentucky, meanwhile, was 20-2. But Houston’s son, the legendary Allan Houston, went off for 27 points and made this an epic back and forth game between the two schools. He had help from Corey Allen, who added 24.

Together, they made the most famous play in Tennessee basketball history. Up nine points at halftime, the Vols blew a huge lead to fall behind to the Wildcats late. That’s where the epic fun began. Kentucky led the game 77-74 with seconds left and fouled Houston. He’d have to make the first and miss the second to get a bucket.

Well, Houston did just that, but the put-back was missed. That’s where Allen came in. He got the rebound and hit a shot while drawing a foul with a second and a half left. Allen hit the free throw, and the Vols won 78-77 off a four-point play. They did nothing else that year, but the thrill of a finish was enough to keep this high on our list.
