Tennessee basketball finds themselves as a No.1 and No.2 in the latest bracketology from ESPN and CBS. Here is an in-depth look at the projected brackets.
The Tennessee basketball team is coming off another solid 2-0 week that included wins against Mississippi and Kentucky. The Wildcats had no answer for Jordan Bone on Saturday as the Vols won by 19 points.
You would think that would be enough to push them ahead of Kentucky in the latest bracketology, but in Joe Lunardi’s case, it is not.
As always we want to keep you up to date with all the latest bracketology, and we begin with ESPN’s Joe Lunardi’s projections which were updated March 5, 2019. You can find the entire bracket projection here.
Joe Lunardi
What do you know Joe? To be honest, not much or he is trolling Volnation for clicks. Somehow Lunardi has the Kentucky Wildcats listed as a No.1 seed over Tennessee even after the 19 point beatdown. The other three one seeds in Lunardi’s projected bracket are Virginia, Gonzaga, and Duke.
You can find the Vols are the No.2 seed in the South region, which is Duke’s bracket. The top four seeds in the South region are Duke (1), Tennessee (2), Purdue (3), and Marquette (4).
At the end of the day, Lunardi’s projections don’t matter, but it’s wild that he still ranks Kentucky over Tennessee. Here is the projected South region.
1) Duke vs. 16) Campbell
8) Iowa vs. 9) Florida
5) Kansas State vs. 12) New Mexico State
4) Marquette vs. 13) Old Dominion
6) Nevada vs. 11) Alabama
3) Purdue vs. 14) Georgia Southern
7) Wofford vs. 10) Ohio State
2) Tennessee vs. 15) Wright State
CBS Sport’s Jerry Palm’s latest update was March 4, 2019. You can find the entire bracket projection here.
Jerry Palm
Jerry Palm, the real bracketologist, has Tennessee as a No.1 seed in the Midwest region. The other three number one seeds include Virginia, Duke, and Gonzaga. This makes sense because Tennessee just beat Kentucky and have better losses.
The top four seeds in the Midwest region are Tennessee (1), North Carolina (2), Texas Tech (3), and Marquette (4).
1) Tennessee vs. 16) Sam Houston
8) Syracuse vs. 9) St. John’s
5) Virginia Tech vs. 12) Arizona State/Furman
4) Marquette vs. 13) Vermont
6) Villanova vs. 11) Minnesota
3) Texas Tech vs. 14) Georgia Southern
7) VCU vs. 10) Oklahoma
2) North Carolina vs. 15) Colgate
Everything will be settled in the coming weeks. If the Vols win out and win the SEC Tournament, there is no way that the committee will leave Tennessee off the one line. First things first though, they have to take care of Mississippi State.
