Tennessee basketball: 5 players to watch in the 2019 SEC Tournament
If Mississippi State gets past the winner or Vanderbilt/Texas A&M on Friday night, they will get a rematch with the Vols.
Should Tennessee be upset by not getting the number two seed in the tournament? I think so. Despite winning by 17 points just a few days ago, I’m not convinced the Vols are that much better than Mississippi State.
Quinndary Weatherspoon is a big-time playmaker who can single-handedly lead Mississippi State to victory and has proved it this season.
Weatherspoon is averaging 18.5 points per game which is up four points from a season ago. The senior guard is attempting two more shots per game and shooting 50.5 percent from the field. Where he has greatly improved is from the three-point line where Weatherspoon is shooting over 40.2 percent.
He’s even improved his free throw shooting percentage to 81.3 percent, up from 77.1 percent last season.
Tennesse held the SEC’s second-leading scorer to just seven points on 3-for-12 from the floor, including 1-for-5 from the three-point line. Weatherspoon never got going by turning the ball over eight times with only three assists.
Watch for Weatherspoon to have more of an impact against the Vols if his Bulldogs win on Thursday night.
