Tennessee basketball: 5 players to watch in the 2019 SEC Tournament
Rounding out our list of five players to watch during the SEC Tournament is Kentucky’s P.J. Washington. The sophomore forward is averaging 14.9 points per game while grabbing 7.5 rebounds per game.
Washington an SEC First-Team selection, was widely accepted as the challenger to Grant Williams when it came to SEC Player of the Year honors. However, his numbers weren’t even that close for a legitimate discussion.
I’ll let you decide.
Player A:
19.3 points per game
7.7 rebounds per game
3.3 assists per game
FG%: 56.9 – 3P%: 33.3 – FT: 83.3
Player B:
14.9 points per game
7.5 rebounds per game
1.9 assists per game
FG%: 52.1 – 3P%: 42.3 – FT%: 67.3%
Player A, Grant Williams was the clear winner, but that doesn’t change the fact that Washington can cause a lot of trouble.
Against the Vols, in Rupp Arena, he scored 25 points on 9-for-12 shooting. While he didn’t play particularly well in Knoxville, Washington still scored 13 points on 2-for-6 from the floor.
He is a game changer and if Tennessee plays Kentucky on Saturday they have to stop Washington, or the game could be over before it starts.
