Selection Sunday is finally here, and the Tennessee basketball team gets a No.2 seed in the South Region. Here are our initial thoughts.

Six more games is all it takes, and the Tennessee basketball team could be the National Champions. And, judging by their draw, they will have an excellent opportunity.

The first initial thought I had was Colgate was well, just another No.15 seed. Upsets happen for sure, last season No.1 seed Virginia Cavaliers lost to a No.16 seed for the first time in tournament history. However, Colgate can shoot the three-point ball.

The Raiders are on an 11 game win streak and shoot close to 40 percent from the three-point line. However, they haven’t seen a team like Tennessee the entire season.

If the Vols win, their next opponent would be the winner of the No.7 Cincinnati Bearcats and the No.10 Iowa Hawkeyes. In my opinion, the Bearcats are the worst No.7 seed in the field. They do crash the offensive boards, but they don’t shoot particularly well from inside the arc or from deep.

One thing that doesn’t make sense is how Cincinnati would get virtually a home game against Tennessee in the second round. However, Ohio isn’t too far away so Tennessee will be just fine.

Iowa has lost six of their last eight games and doesn’t have that many good wins. The Hawkeyes do shoot the three-point jumper reasonably well at 36 percent. But, if Tennessee plays their game, that shouldn’t lose to either team.

Looking way too far ahead because anything can happen in March, you shouldn’t mind playing Purdue if both teams make the Sweet 16. Again, it seems like the selection committee wants Tennessee to play good three-point shooting teams. Purdue shoots around 36 percent from deep.

Next. Tennessee Vols a 2-seed in NCAA Tournament. dark

As always anything can happen in March. Volnation saw it first hand when Loyola-Chicago pulled the upset in the second round. But, the draw could be much worse. Another positive is the Vols wouldn’t see Duke until the National Championship Game.
