No.16 Gardner Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs (23-11)

Boiling Springs, NC – Big South Conference
Head coach: Tim Craft

Like Old Dominion, there is basically a zero percent chance they make the Elite 8. In fact, there has only been one No.16 seed to beat a No.1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. It happened last season against Virginia, can it happen again? Probably not.

Best win

Based on the name, the best win came on December 29th against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Gardner Webb won that game on the road by five points thanks to 18 Wake Forest turnovers.

Worst loss

There are a few bad losses from the season against Eastern Illinois, Campbell, Charleston Southern, and High Point. However, the worst came against Arkansas State on November 25th. The Red Wolves finished the season with just 13 wins, and one was against Gardner Webb.

Longest streak

The longest win streak came in the month of December when they reeled off eight wins in a row. Two wins came against Georgia Tech and Wake Forest, but to be fair three wins came against D2 teams.

What they do best

Does it really matter what the Runnin’ Bulldogs do well? If they want to pull the magical upset, they have to take and make the three-point shot. They rank 37th in the nation shooting 37.7 from deep but to beat Virginia they need to shoot around 50 percent.
