Tennessee basketball: A look at the Vols road to the Final Four
No. 8 Mississippi Rebels (20-12)
Oxford, MS – Southeastern Conference
Head coach: Kermit Davis Jr
A team Tennessee is familiar with; the Ole Miss Rebels have a chance to make some noise this postseason. Sure, playing the No.1 seed in the Second Round is not ideal but don’t count out Kermit Davis and crew. They have fantastic guards that can get hot and take over games, not predicting the upset but I think they could give Virginia a run.
Best win
Ole Miss had a successful first-year under Davis. They won 20 games and beat some pretty good teams. Their best wins came against Auburn, the SEC Tournament Champs, on January 9th and February 13th.
Worst loss
The Rebels had a lot of quality losses on the season. However, they did drop a game against Butler (16-16) and Arkansas (17-15). Butler was the second game of the season, so it’s hard to hold that against Ole Miss. And, even the Arkansas loss came in the middle of close games against Tennessee and Kentucky.
Longest streak
Starting on November 28th through January 12th, Ole Miss won ten games in a row that included wins over Auburn and Mississippi State.
What they do best
Ole Miss is one of the best free throw shooting teams in the country, connecting on 78.3 percent of their attempts. In fact, they are the best free throw shooting team in the NCAA Tournament.
