Tennessee basketball: 5 players for Vols to watch in second weekend of tournament
No.4 – Ryan Cline, Purdue Boilermakers
Ryan Cline is the type of player that can haunt opposing players in their dreams. No, he isn’t the most flashy and no he shouldn’t be the Vols number one priority. However, if you let Cline get going from the three-point line, Purdue is likely to win.
There have been six games this season where Cline has connected on six or more three-point shots. When Cline gets going; he’s hard to stop. Against Florida State on November 28th, Cline attempted 11 three-point jumpers and connected on seven of them; tying a season-high 21 points.
Cline is a lot like Jordan Bowden in a sense there are some games where he goes off like Florida State. He’s also poured in over 20 points against Penn State, Appalachian State, and scored 19 against Minnesota in the Big Ten Tournament.
However, there are some games where he accounts for single-digit scoring, and that happens quite a bit. Most recently against Old Dominion in the First-Round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament, Cline went 1-for-11 from the three-point line scoring just five points.
I wouldn’t expect that type of performance from the senior guard. Cline is shooting 40.6 percent from the three-point line this season which ranks 190th in the nation. He even upped that percentage to 43.8 during Big Ten play and is due to go off.
