On the Board Part I (Candidates with Drawbacks)

These are solid candidates for the job but may have a drawback somewhere. Here’s our look at all of them.

Karen Aston, Texas Longhorns

Karen Aston has taken over a Texas Longhorns team and consistently been a staple on the NCAA Tournament stage. In addition to her success there, she also managed to take Charlotte to the NCAA Tournament. So she has proven a lot.

However, she only made it once with Charlotte. Also, she spent one year with North Texas and had a losing season. And despite going further in the tournament over a few years, she has no conference championships, so she hasn’t taken Texas much further than her predecessor, Gail Ann Goestenkors, did.

Felisha Legette-Jack, Buffalo Bulls

Felisha Legette-Jack is a new star in the making after turning around the Buffalo Bulls. She has overseen six straight winning seasons along with three NCAA Tournament appearances, two conference tournament titles and another division title over the last four years.

However, She did still get fired by the Indiana Hoosiers after three straight losing seasons. It’s fair to believe that maybe she is a significantly better coach now, but those red flags make this hire difficult to sell to a program as storied as Tennessee’s.

Katie Abrahamson-Henderson, UCF Knights

Katie Abrahamson-Henderson has a couple of negatives on her resume. First, she went 7-21 her final year with the Missouri State Lady Bears in 2006-2007 before resigning. Then she joined Felisha Legette-Jack’s staff and was part of the program slide that got Legette-Jack fired.

However, since going back into coaching, her resume has been flawless. She has spent the past three years with the UCF Knights and just made the NCAA Tournament. Her previous six years were with the Albany Great Danes, and she made the Big Dance five times. Each of her past eight years have been seasons with 20 or more wins. So there are drawbacks, but she’s very qualified.
