No.2 – Grant’s 43 points against Vanderbilt

One of the best individual performances in my lifetime, we come to Grant Williams dropping 43 points against the Vanderbilt Commodores. We might touch on the No.1 ranking later, but this was the first game of the season as the Vols being ranked No.1.

After starting the game on a 15-2 run, Tennessee got Vanderbilt’s best shot, and by halftime, it was basically a tie game. We saw that a lot from the Vols this season. Get out to a big lead and let the weaker team back in the game. It’s like winning by 20 wasn’t fun, and the team needed to make fans sweat.

But, in this particular game, Williams went off scoring a career-high 43 points. More impressive than scoring 43 points? Going a perfect 23-for-23 from the free throw line is pretty close. That actually marked the second most free throws made in a row in Division I history.

Believe it or not, Williams scoring 43 points was the first Vol to scored over 40 points since Allan Houston did it in 1990. That’s remarkable when you think about all the outstanding players that have put on the orange and white.
