Tennessee basketball: 5 things for Vols to address this offseason
No.5 – Who is the new assistant coach?
The Tennessee basketball program will conduct a coaching search after all. It won’t be for a new head man though. Rick Barnes is staying with the Vols after a flirtatious 24 hours with UCLA. However, his lead assistant Rob Lanier took the head coaching job with Georgia State.

What will replacing Lanier look like?
It could be a lot harder than you think. Lanier has been around the coaching world with stays at Florida, Texas, Virginia, and Tennessee. He’s also been involved in recruiting some fantastic talent.
At Florida, the Gators made a trip to the Elite Eight along with an SEC Regular Season Championship. He’s been instrumental with the rebuild at Tennessee and deserves the credit he gets.
Where does Barnes turn?
Rumors have it that Kim English from Colorado will get a call. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because he played for the Missouri Tigers from 2008-12 where he averaged around 12 points per game. Before joining the staff at Colorado, English spent two seasons with his old coach Frank Haith at Tulsa.
There is still a chance that Barnes will have to replace Desmond Oliver if Kennesaw comes calling. If so, keep an eye out for Jonas Haynes from Xavier. He has a strong history of developing be men, something Tennessee desperately needs.
