5. Who gets the most targets in the receiver rotation?

Marquez Callaway, Josh Palmer and Jauan Jennings were all major go-to wideouts at different points last season. Jennings, however, was coming back from injury, and Palmer was still learning the fundamentals of his position.

As a result, with both of them back at full strength this spring, Tennessee football’s receiver rotation remains up in the air. Remember, there’s still Brandon Johnson as well, who fell into the pack last season.

Then you have slot guys like Jordan Murphy and Tyler Byrd, and there are plenty of other contributors who could get into the rotation. Don’t forget that Deangelo Gibbs is a transfer who is getting looks there. And there’s freshman Ramel Keyton.

New offensive coordinator Jim Chaney loves to use a complete receiver set with two clear go-to wideouts, a clear slot guy and a clear tight end, and they all get looks in different ways. We know Dominick Wood-Anderson will be the tight end.

But, especially with new receivers coach Tee Martin, who will be the main guys in the receiver rotation? They’ll obviously all get a look playing on different sides in the spring game. It’s one beauty of having such an event.

So the real question will be which side each one plays on and who steps up and makes the big plays. This is one position of strength with all the major contributors back, but the rotation will be shortened. Saturday will provide a good idea of how it gets shortened.
