We’re back to the offensive line for Tennessee football, and this one is a surprise. Normally, offensive linemen take a while to get acclimated to any system. But a four-star recruit who was at one point a five-star, Wanya Morris came in with very high expectations.

An early enrollee in the Vols 2019 recruiting class, Morris and five-star Darnell Wright were the stars of the offensive line in the group. With Wright not arriving until the summer, Drew Richmond and Chance Hall gone and Trey Smith still not fully good to go, the spring was a chance for Morris to make a splash.

He did just that. The coaches touted him throughout spring practice, and the specific name drops count for something. It manifested itself on Saturday in the Orange and White game as Morris, a freshman, was named to the firs-team unit.

The Vols need a ton of help at tackle, and Morris may be ready to provide that immediately. Now, to be fair, he struggled like the rest of the line in the spring game itself. But as a guy looking to work his way into the rotation, Morris may be the big surprise of the spring for the Vols.
