An interview with Tennessee Vols athletic director Phillip Fulmer and baseball in the postseason leads our Volunteers news for Thursday, April 18, 2019.

The NFL Draft is a week away, and while they likely won’t make too much noise in it, the Tennessee Vols have some players who could hear their names called. But that’s not a focus of today’s news.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with another interview done by athletic director Phillip Fulmer. There’s also some really impressive news surrounding the baseball program that we want to get to as well, though.

Following that, we have news about a former Lady Vol and update about a postseason tournament. So even on a light day, there is still news for us to get to. Let’s start with more of the Fulmer news.

Phillip Fulmer speaks with Rick Russo – WVLT

Tennessee Vols athletic director Phillip Fulmer did an interview with Rick Russo that was published on Wednesday. Here’s a bit of what Fulmer said about getting used to his role over a year into it.

"“I am settling into that role, and as I always say many times, I keep an excellent team around me. It really has been a lot of fun. Most days are a lot of fun. We’ve had some good things happen.”"

Tennessee baseball projected into NCAA Tournament – D1baseball.com

The Tennessee Vols baseball team have certainly been a surprise story as a top 25 team with a 27-11 record and No. 22 ranking. Coming off a series win over the No. 2 ranked Georgia Bulldogs this past weekend to move to 6-9 in the SEC, the No. 8 ranked team in the RPI now has some new love: They’re projected into the NCAA Tournament by D1 Baseball as a No. 2 seed in a region with No. 4 seed Wright State, No. 3 seed Dallas Baptist and the No. 1 seed Texas Tech Red Raiders. This would be the program’s first NCAA Tournament since their College World Series appearance in 2005.

"Here’s how the overall bids breakdown by conference: SEC (11), ACC (7), Big 12 (7), Pac 12 (6), American (3), Big Ten (3), Big West (2), Conference USA (2). Resident bracketologist Mark Etheridge and national writers Kendall Rogers and Aaron Fitt make up the postseason field each week."
