Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Peyton Manning turning down ESPN’s Monday Night Football leads our Volunteers news for Tuesday, April 23, 2019.

After a heavy weekend of news, the Tennessee Vols have a very light Tuesday. Even with the NFL Draft being held in the state beginning this Thursday, Rocky Top just doesn’t have a lot going on at this moment when it comes to football or men’s and women’s basketball.

We had a ton involving those sports last week, but our morning update on Rocky Top for this Tuesday leads with a former Vol. Okay, so he’s the most famous former Vol maybe ever, but he’s all we’ve got for any of the major sports.

However, the baseball program continues to have exciting news, and we have more coverage of that to bring you this week. An awards show from Monday night is also on the slate, and we’ll get to that as well. Let’s start with the former Vol.

Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Peyton Manning has reportedly rejected an offer to join the ESPN broadcast booth for ‘Monday Night Football.’ Manning would have been the second Vol in two years to be in the booth after Jason Witten was in it last year. Witten, however, came out of retirement to rejoin the Dallas Cowboys.

"During their last round of talks, Manning passed on joining Joe Tessitore, Booger McFarland and Lisa Salters in the “Monday Night Football” booth. Instead, the two-time Super Bowl champion opted to host ESPN’s new five-part, 30-episode series, “Peyton’s Places,” debuting on ESPN+ in July."

The Tennessee Vols baseball team will be looking to continue its success. After sweeping the Kentucky Wildcats over the weekend, they are now a real contender for the NCAA Tournament. But before they keep their momentum going in SEC play with a road trip to the Arkansas Razorbacks, they’ll have to win another midweek game.

"No. 18 Tennessee (30-11, 9-9 SEC) will host Gardner-Webb (18-18, 8-10 Big South) Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET. The contest will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs."
