The 2020 NFL Draft is roughly a year away, but it’s never too early to throw out mock drafts. Vols Trey Smith is projected in the Top-10 by some media outlets.

The 2019 NFL Draft is in the books, and for the third time in five years, the Tennessee football team had zero players drafted. It’s quite an amazing stat when you dive into the history of one of the best football programs in all of the land.

The 2015 NFL Draft marked the first time in 50 years there wasn’t a Vol draft. The 50-year span began in 1964 and stretched to 2014. In fact, Tennessee was left out of the 2016 NFL Draft and again in 2019.

But, all that is about to change.

Early mock drafts from Bleacher Report and The Draft Network have Trey Smith listed as a Top-10 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Walter Football has Smith going even higher at No.2 only behind Alabama’s quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Smith, the former five-star prospect was one of the best freshmen in the entire nation. He quickly gained the respect of the entire team and started all 12 games. In what was the worst season in program history, Smith shined the brightest. That’s one thing Butch Jones did right.

No one would play with Smith as a freshman; he was dominating the competition. I believe if able to turn pro he could have been a Top-10 pick, maybe even No.1 overall.

Unfortunately, the injury bug has plagued Smith recently. The 6-foot-6, 320-pounder had a medical condition last season that sidelined him and brought up questions if he was going to be able to play football in the future.

`Despite the health concerns, Smith has the talent to start in the NFL right now. If healthy, he should dominate the SEC and have the decision to go pro or come back for his senior season.
