Very few Tennessee football players have the potential that Josh Palmer has. Having come from Canada, he had limited experience as a wide receiver before arriving on Rocky Top. Then he had to change systems one year in after Butch Jones was fired.

But Palmer is now entering his second year in a pro-style offense, even if the coordinators changed from Tyson Helton to Jim Chaney. And in the spring, he was named the most improved player on offense.

That’s a scary thought for opponents given the raw talent he’s already shown. Palmer has already shown solid hands when getting into a rhythm, and he ranked second on the team last year with over 480 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, the guy has great size at 6’2″ 204 pounds. More crisp route-running could make him unstoppable.

Given all of those facts, there’s a very good chance he could leave early after this year for the pros. We only have him down here because of the depth chart. The Vols have three other seniors in the rotation, and two are proven elite playmakers. So Palmer may not be able to get the necessary reps to prove he could leave early for the draft.
