The nature of Tennessee football’s offensive line is going to naturally leave the five positions up for grabs among new recruits and even returning starters. Nobody is safe given the state of the unit as a whole.

After all, it was historically bad last year. Heading into this year, the Vols lost a starter to transfer, they lost a rotational guy to retirement, two more of their linemen on the roster also retired, it’s unclear how ready Brandon Kennedy will be this fall, and they are still dealing with the health issues of Trey Smith.

Simply put, there are a lot of holes. And while Wanya Morris stood out as an early enrollee in the spring, Darnell Wright is the five-star phenom arriving in the summer, and Ryan Johnson, K’Rojhn Calbert and Marcus Tatum have all proven their value, there’s still room for a Melvin McBride to make his way in there.

A 6’4″ 310-pound prospect, he may only be a three-star, but McBride already has the body to make an impact. So when he arrives in the summer, don’t be surprised if he shocks some people. Whitehaven is a football factory in West Tennessee, and you have to take that into account. McBride could truly see some early action.
