Although Tennessee football is largely set in the secondary, there’s still an opening at safety. The departures of Micah Abernathy and Todd Kelly Jr. leave that other spot alongside Nigel Warrior up for grabs.

Bryce Thompson and Alontae Taylor have locked up the cornerback slots, and Baylen Buchanan has locked up the nickel slot. the other safety slot only has favorites right now. It doesn’t have anybody who is a sure bet.

To be fair, those favorites are Theo Jackson and Trevon Flowers. One of them, Flowers, is a three-star who made an impact as a freshman last year. But Jeremy Pruitt is likely to still keep that slot open during fall camp, and that’s where Aaron Beasley can come in and make a play.

A three-star athlete, Beasley’s main position is likely to be safety. That’s where he’ll get the first look, and he has a great chance of turning heads if he’s ready to go when the summer arrives. Hey, a three-star did it there last year.

Add in the fact that he’s an athlete, and Beasley further increases his chances of potentially playing. His main role is at a position with an opening, and he’s versatile. The combination puts him slightly ahead of Melvin McBride.
