Tennessee football roster: Projecting Vols’ 2019 2-deep depth chart
Running Back
1. Ty Chandler
Junior, 5’11” 201 pounds
Tennessee football’s best playmaker, Ty Chandler is the star of the offense. He is the most versatile running back, scoring three receiving touchdowns in three straight games last year. And he also averaged over five yards a carry. Add in his toughness, and there’s no way to ignore that he’s the top running back on the roster.
Jim Chaney has shown with the Georgia Bulldogs that he loves turning running backs into superstars, and he exploits their raw talent as much as possible. Chandler should love that, and both will be a great fit for each other.
2. Tim Jordan
Junior, 5’11” 206 pounds
Jeremy Pruitt and Jim Chaney both love using a by-committee running back system, but they do it with only one player on the field at the time. Chandler’s talent will mean he gets the bulk of the carries. But Tim Jordan will be right behind him.
Jordan was the perfect type of back to spell Chandler last year, and he’s an overall true running back. The guy blocks, has enough versatility and solid vision to be effective. His fundamentals will make him a reliable player.
3. Jeremy Banks
Sophomore, 6’1″ 218 pounds
The Vols always need one power back who could shoulder the load if there’s an injury. Jeremy Banks runs hard and was a four-star recruit in 2018. If he can hold onto the ball, he’ll be a very valuable short-yardage back and a perfect guy to provide depth.
