Former Tennessee Vols football tight end Ethan Wolf signing with an NFL team leads our Volunteers news for Tuesday, May 14, 2019.

Numerous sports are still in postseason play, and the Tennessee Vols have reached the heart of the main spring sport, baseball. On the heels of two big commitments in two different sports, though, more news of former football players is the story of the day.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with a former Vol from 2017 finally making it to an NFL roster. The news of the signing broke yesterday, and he joins a few former Vols from 2018 who have made rosters. Other recognition from the day includes a baseball player being honored.

We then have another baseball game to preview along with postseason updates regarding the men’s golf program. So even in the middle of the week in the spring, we’re loaded with news. Let’s start with the former Vol.

Ethan Wolf signs with Carolina Panthers – Patrick Brown, GoVols247

Former Tennessee Vols football tight end Ethan Wolf signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers on Monday after spending the weekend at the team’s rookie minicamp. Wolf was a four-year starter in Butch Jones’s system from 2014 to 2017 and then was first with the Tennessee Titans last year before being cut and signing with the Green Bay Packers practice squad.

"Wolf gives the Panthers a third former Tennessee player. Michael Palardy has been the team’s starting punter since late in the 2016 season and signed a three-year extension worth $7.52 million with the team last year. Carolina drafted Vols defensive back Rashaan Gaulden in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft and he made 17 tackles in 15 games as a special-teams player and defensive reserve during his rookie season."

Andre Lipcius named SEC Player of the Week – SECSports

Tennessee Vols baseball third baseman Andre Lipcius was named SEC Player of the Week. The senior is the first UT player this season to earn the player of the week honor.

"Six of Lipcius’ eight hits on the week came against the Gators, including a four-hit performance in Saturday’s 8-7 victory. Lipcius had two doubles, a home run, three RBI and scored two runs in the game, finishing a triple shy of the cycle. The four hits tied a career high. He posted three multi-hit games for the week and leads the team with 17 multi-hit games this season."

"The Vols will host Tennessee Tech (22-28, 9-18 OVC) at 6 p.m. ET and will be televised by SEC Network+ and on the WatchESPN app. Tennessee has a 23-2 record against non-conference opponents in 2019, the most in a regular season since winning 23 in 2001."
