NBA Combine: Grant Williams played more relaxed in Game 2
Former Vol Grant Williams took the court for his second scrimmage of the NBA Draft Combine on Friday afternoon. He looked much more relaxed.
After his first scrimmage, Grant Williams had a few NBA executives talking about him, but it wasn’t in a great way. One concern was the lack of offensive production. Williams scored just five points on 2-for-13 from the floor, including 0-for-5 from the three-point line.
It looked like Williams was pressing a bit with his outside shot. It appeared it was trying too hard to prove he can knock down the deep jumper. A few times, Grant got the ball in his sweet spot 10-15 feet from the basketball, but nothing would fall.
I don’t want to sound too negative because the other parts of his game were next level. He commanded the offense by making sure the team ran through ball screens and back screens. Williams flashed as the right times yet also had enough knowledge to stretch the floor when necessary.
He finished his first game with two rebounds, four steals, and three blocks. On one of the blocks, Grant stopped a fast break by blocking the opposing player’s dunk.
All things considered, Williams played a good game, and to me, he proved he can play at the next level.
In game number two, Grant looked much more relaxed and played within himself. However, he still passed up looks he would have taken last season with the Vols. He was trying to be more of a facilitator than a scorer.
When the game got close, the basketball was in Williams’ hands a lot, and he made winnings plays. He finished with eight points on 4-of-8 from the floor, including 0-for-2 from the three-point line. Williams also poured in two rebounds, four assist, one steal, and three blocks.
