NBA Combine: Jordan Bone helped his draft chances with scrimmage No.2
Scrimmage number two for Jordan Bone at the NBA Draft Combine helped his draft chances. He played like Kentucky’s Ashton Hagans was guarding him.
Like former Tennesse basketball teammate Grant Williams, Jordan Bone had himself a scrimmage on Friday afternoon. After a rough go of things on Thursday, Bone took the court Friday for his second scrimmage, and it looked like he was playing Kentucky.
Last season the Vols and Cats played three times and statically speaking it was probably the best three-game series of Bone’s career. He finished with 64 points on 61.6 percent from the floor and a staggering 76.9 percent from deep with 14 assists and four turnovers.
That was the Jordan Bone all the NBA scouts were able to see on Friday afternoon.
Last Thursday, I wrote that Bone didn’t help his draft chances with his play. There were times during scrimmage number one where he got to the rack. There were times he had full control of the pace of play. There were other times where he looked lost defensively guarding screens, and the length of the opposing players bothered him at the rim.
However, in scrimmage number two Bone settled in and played his game. He was getting the basket with ease and finishing at the rim reasonably well. One of his strongest abilities was seeing the floor and getting his teammates involved. Bone finished the season with one of the best assist-to-turnover ratios in the nation. He also led the SEC in assists an assists per game.
On Friday, Bone finished the game with nine points on 3-for-9 from the floor, including 1-for-5 from the three-point line. He finished with a team-leading six assists with just one turnover.
Bone was aggressive from the start and was the only player on his team to finish with a positive +/- rating. Pair that with his athletic measurables and some team is going to find the steal of the draft. Bone could technically make his way back to Tennessee. However, it would be stunning.
