Tennessee football introduced the VolPass on Thursday, May 16. After a week of thought, this is a very enticing idea for Volnation.

I think I can speak for all Tennessee football fans and say the ticket prices have gotten out of hand, especially with the lackluster product that the program is fielding. Truthfully the past decade of football has been miserable. Even when Butch Jones was able to get the program to back-to-back nine-win seasons, somehow that felt disappointing.

During the past ten seasons, the Vols have won ten games just once paired with seven losing seasons. Oh, and five losses to Vanderbilt. To Vanderbilt!

I give Tennessee fans a pass when it comes to not purchasing tickets for the game. The fan experience isn’t great. We’ve touched on the product on the field is horrendous, and the ticket prices are outrageous. However, the University might have found the key to putting bodies in Neyland Stadium.

Since 2008, Neyland Stadium’s annual attendance has taken a hit. 2018 displayed a low since Phillip Fulmer was forced out as head coach. The average attendance for games in 2018 was a shade under 93,000.

Can Tennessee fix the issue?

They may have found the answer with the football version of the VolPass. The 2019 Tennessee football VolPass includes a ticket for all eight home games for a small price of $280. That’s $35 a game.

Allvols.com breaks down all the rules, but simply ticket holders will have the opportunity to log into their accounts on Monday morning to select their tickets. VolPass members will also have the chance to purchase additional single game tickets at face value.

Another cool feature to the VolPass is tickets will be delivered via mobile devices and the QR code will be scanned on your phone for entry.

The price alone should be enough to get Tennessee football fans excited. You never know when a team is going to surprise you and play higher than the preseason projection. The basketball Vols did it in Year 3 of Rick Barnes, maybe the football team will do it in Year 2.
