Tennessee basketball: Grant Williams’ 10 greatest games with Vols

Grant Williams stat line: 31 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists

Before the Tennessee Tech game, Grant Williams had another highly efficient game early in the season to prove he had no drop-off. Tennessee basketball was off to a 2-0 start, and Rick Barnes was showing that the team would continue the momentum it had before.

Sure, this game was only against the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns. But we can’t ignore what Williams was able to do in this outing. He had the efficiency to make it a historic enough performance but also added the raw numbers.

Williams scored 31 points on 11-of-15 shooting. When you drop 30 and go over 70 percent from the field, you had a great game. There’s more, though. From the three-point line, where he didn’t shoot a lot, Williams was an impressive 3-for-4. He was also 6-of-7 from the free throw line, shooting highly efficient in all aspects.

Then came his 10 rebounds and 3 assists. So he was able to be involved in the offense in other ways, and he made sure to notch a double-double in this one. The combination makes this one of his best outings by far as a Vol.

By the way, Louisiana Lafayette did go 19-13, so it’s not like they were just a horrible team. These guys were somewhat decent, and Williams dominated them easily. Even if it did take 34 minutes, more than his usual playing time in such games, it’s still impressive enough to make this list.
