Tennessee football recruiting: Vols offer 370-pound Canadian lineman
Tennessee football recruiting is looking to Canada again. The Volunteers offered 2020 offensive and defensive tackle Tyrell Lawrence of Ontario.
Jonathan Kongbo and Josh Palmer both came from the north before joining Tennessee football. Well, the Vols are looking there again, this time under Jeremy Pruitt. And their target is somebody to be an impact player in the trenches.
Tyrell Lawrence, who plays offensive and defensive tackle, received an offer from UT for 2020. Despite playing both sides, he’s listed as an offensive lineman on both Rivals and 247Sports, which makes it likely that’s what he’ll play.
Hailing from Burlington, Ontario, Lawrence comes out of Clarkson Football North and stands at 6’7″ 375 pounds. Until Friday, only Howard and UMASS had offered him according to Rivals. He announced Tennessee football’s scholarship offer on Twitter.
Right now, Lawrence has no rating on Rivals or 247Sports. However, he is a 2020 prospect, and his incredible size could make him a very valuable player. Pruitt has been focusing on the trenches throughout the week, and this guy is certainly his most unique offer.
The Vols had some success with Kongbo coming from Canada, and Palmer has not fully reached his potential on Rocky Top yet. Given the way he was hyped up in the spring, you could see the Vols having a selling point to people from Canada after this year. There’s plenty of reason to believe Palmer could have that type of impact.
Meanwhile, Lawrence would bring versatility along with his size to Rocky Top. Even if he sticks at offensive line, his ability to play both sides of the ball is very valuable for Tennessee football. So keep an eye on how his recruitment develops.
Pruitt has been going for size in the trenches since he arrived in Knoxville. Lawrence certainly brings that. With Tennessee football being the most prestigious school to offer him yet, he also helps the Vols build on the pipeline they’ve been working to establish into Canada.
