Rick Barnes believes Uros Plavsic will be on the court next season; however, the waiver of transfer has to get accepted by the NCAA.

The offseason has been a rollercoaster for Rick Barnes and the Tennessee basketball program. With the recent news of point guard Jordan Bone keeping his name in the NBA Draft, the Vols will lose four of their five starters from last season. A season mind you that saw 31 wins.

Then, Barnes had his, “Days of Our Lives” episode as he was out the door heading to California to be the head man of the UCLA Bruins. No need to be upset with Barnes flirting with a program he holds so valuable in the college basketball ranks. However, it is fair to tighten the leash on a coach that underachieved in the most significant moments last season.

It hasn’t been all bad news.

The basketball squad has filled the vacancies with new players. How talented the new players will be is yet to been seen; however, there is growing optimism for what’s to come. Speaking of optimism, Rick Barnes believes Uros Plavsic will play for the Vols next season.

At the current moment, Plavsic would have to sit out the upcoming season. However, the waiver for immediate eligibility could be granted, and we could see the former four-star prospect on the court in game one.

Barnes is down in Destin, Florida for SEC Spring Meetings where he was asked about Plavsic’s eligibility. “I think he has a situation to where he is a good case,” said Barnes. Basically, the wavier stems from not having a reliable support system in Arizona, and Plavsic wants to be closer to home.

It’s a wait and see type of game with transfer request. Sometimes the most logical and reasonable request gets denied. On the other hand, request that have no merit are the ones that get accepted the most.

One thing is for sure, Uros Plavsic will help the Vols frontcourt next season if he is able to play. Worst case, he doesn’t play for Tennessee in 2019-20 but is a playmaker the year after.
