The countdown to the start of the Tennessee football season has begun. In less than 100 days the Vols will take on Georgia State at 3:30 pm in Neyland Stadium.
It’s almost football time in Tennessee. The countdown is under 100 days til the Tennessee football team opens the 2019 season with Georgia State. The two teams will meet at Neyland Stadium for a 3:30 pm kickoff on August 31.
Last season the Vols began the season at 3:30 pm against West Virginia. The Vols came out playing tough in Jeremy Pruitt’s first game as head coach. The Mountaineers took a 13-7 lead into halftime, and it was over that. GSU won’t pose the same challenge West Virginia did, but as always Tennessee can’t take any team lightly.
If you aren’t going to the game, you can find the coverage on ESPN U. You can also make plans for the BYU and Chattanooga games.
The Vols and Cougars kickoff at 7:00 pm on September 7 on ESPN in what should be a considerable test early in the season. Lose that game, and it could be a long season. However, if Tennessee wins, and they should, it’s a huge momentum builder leading into Chattanooga and Florida.
With wins against Georgia State and BYU, the Vols would be 2-0 heading into a noon kickoff with Chattanooga on September 14. And, we all know the noon time is the best time, right?
Other games on the schedule that we should find times out soonish are at Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi State.
CBSSports is hosting a doubleheader on September 21, the day that Vols head down to Gainesville, FL to take on the Gators. This could be a game CBS picks up in the 3:30 pm time slot.
You would have to think if the Vols somehow manage to get by the first four games, Tennessee and Georgia would draw the 3:30 pm kick on CBS and maybe even College Gameday. I know, I’m speaking a little too far out in the future, but it could happen if the team is better than we expect.
