Three-star wide receiver Jerrod Means is one of two players at the position for the 2019 Tennessee football recruiting class. The other is four-star Ramel Keyton, and he was an early enrollee as well.

So Keyton joins the Vols with more hype than Means and also more experience after going through a spring practice. On top of that, the Vols are loaded with experience at receiver heading into this year.

Jauan Jennings is the go-to playmaker, Marquez Callaway is a proven athlete, Josh Palmer was the most improved offensive player in the spring, and Brandon Johnson has a history of solid production. Meanwhile, Tyler Byrd and Jordan Murphy have made some impacts.

Simply put, Means has a ton of competition to deal with if he’s going to see any action this year. A three-star recruit joining the deepest position for 2019 who is the least hyped and least experienced player at his position in his class is not going to play.

That’s why he’s No. 12 on the list. If Means works his way into the rotation this year, he will have become one of Jeremy Pruitt’s biggest steals. It’s highly unlikely that happens. The good news for him is four receivers are seniors, so the 6’2″ 200-pound prospect will be needed soon after this year.
