Tennessee Vols athletic director Phillip Fulmer conducting an exclusive interview and the MLB Draft lead our Volunteers news for Wednesday, June 5, 2019.

Our Tennessee Vols news hasn’t lost all of its postseason coverage yet. We have more of that in one sport to bring you today, but it’s actually not the major story leading the way for the first Wednesday in June.

Today’s morning update on Rocky Top leads with news of an exclusive interview that was actually conducted last week. Another big story involves former players in one sport now being selected to play professionally.

But that postseason news is still there, so even as we stay in June, UT has plenty of things for us to cover on a regular basis. Let’s start with the exclusive interview done by the top guy on campus right now.

Phillip Fulmer speaks on program – Blake Toppmeyer, Knoxville News Sentinel

Tennessee Vols athletic director Phillip Fulmer conducted an exclusive interview with the Knoxville News Sentinel last week at SEC Spring Meetings to discuss various topics related to the program. They included Neyland renovations, Kellie Harper, Jeremy Pruitt’s handling of the program and neutral site games. The interview was published Wednesday morning. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"My whole thing when I came in was my four pillars because I knew what it looked like when I was the coach here – when it was really, really good. That was great communication and relationships on campus with the board and the president and the chancellor and the athletic director and the coaches all being aligned. We are closer to that than I can remember since the mid-2000s."

Four Vols taken in MLB Draft – Ken Lay, VolsWire.com

The Tennessee Vols baseball team had no players taken on the first day of the MLB Draft, but four went on the second day. Leading the way was third basemen Andre Lipcius, who was chosen in the third round by the Detroit Tigers. After that, three pitchers went, including Garrett Stallings, Zach Linginfelter and Andrew Schultz.

"Stallings was a fifth-rounder (No. 151 overall), while Linginfelter was taken by Los Angeles in ninth round (No. 271).Pitcher Andrew Schultz was the lone Vol to land in the National League. He was chosen by the Philadelphia Phillies in the sixth round and the 180th player selected."
