Tennessee Vols quarterback Peyton Manning and outside linebacker Darrell Taylor lead our Volunteers news for Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

The news surrounding the Tennessee Vols is finally starting to die down, but basketball personnel issues, football previews and the recognition of former players are all stories throughout this time. It’s no different today.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with one Vol all-time legend being inducted into a sports Hall of Fame. It involves national recognition for another player on this year’s upcoming team along with three other players getting lesser recognition.

Finally, we have news surrounding the signing of a future basketball player and the retirement of an administrator. So with the official start of summer still over a week away, we’ve got plenty of news to bring you in Vol Nation today. Let’s start with the honors.

Peyton Manning talks making another Hall of Fame – Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame

Former Tennessee Vols quarterback and NFL legend Peyton Manning has been inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. He spoke about how humbling the honor was. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“My dad would tell you he’s as surprised as anyone to have had sons play professional football. It was not planned. It’s never something he thought would happen. Maybe that’s why it occurred. He wasn’t pushing or pressuring us to play sports.”"

Analyst names Darrell Taylor preseason All-American – Patrick Brown, GoVols247

Tennessee football outside linebacker Darrell Taylor has been tabbed by Phil Steele as a preseason first-team All-SEC pick and a preseason fourth-team All-American. Bryce Thompson and Nigel Warrior both made third-team All-SEC, and Marquez Callaway made fourth-team.

"Taylor’s eight sacks tied him for sixth in the SEC, and he also ranked in the top-15 in the league with 11 tackles for loss. The former four-star prospect considered entering the 2019 NFL Draft and received a grade back after requesting one from the NFL’s College Advisory Committee before electing to return to Tennessee for his fifth and final season in 2019."

Victor Bailey officially signs with Tennessee basketball – APNews.com

The Tennessee Vols basketball team officially signed guard Victor Bailey Jr. The Oregon Ducks transfer will sit out the 2019-2020 season and return in 2020-2021 with two years of eligibility left.

"The 6-foot-4 Bailey is from Austin, Texas, and averaged 7.4 points and 19.1 minutes for Oregon last season. He shot 39.8% from 3-point range, 41% from the floor and 91% on free-throw attempts."

UT Associate Athletic Director to retire in July – UTSports.com

University of Tennessee Senior Associate Athletic Director Donna Thomas, who has worked with the program for 30 years, will retire on July 15. Thomas currently serves as UT’s senior woman administrator and the department’s chief of staff.

"A New Tazewell, Tennessee, native who graduated from Claiborne County High School and began her career on Rocky Top as a student manager for legendary women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt, Thomas ascended to the top advisor role under visionary Tennessee women’s AD Joan Cronan. Thomas has since served in a senior-level leadership capacity under three different athletic directors following the merger of the men’s and women’s athletic departments."
