Tennessee basketball: Ranking Vols by landing spots following 2019 NBA Draft
Kyle Alexander has a different goal than the other three Tennessee basketball players who inked deals with teams. He is looking to make a roster right now as opposed to having a focus on being a role player or being a starter.
And with that goal, he’s got the perfect landing spot. The Miami Heat have invited Alexander to their Summer League, and that’s the perfect spot for the 6’11” forward. Let’s start with the organization of the Heat.
Pat Riley is still running the show there, and he clearly knows how to scout talent. Also, he has appreciation for four years college guys who do the dirty work the way Alexander did on Rocky Top. Add in the fact that Josh Richardson, another four-year guy from the Vols, worked out for him, and he’s likely to give Alexander an extra look.
With Hassan Whiteside’s contract expiring in 2020 and no real answers in the post despite a ton of bodies, Alexander is also going to a great situation given the fact that Riley is thinking about the future. Again, if he were wanting to start, this wouldn’t work out. But to make a roster, he is in the perfect spot.
