Tennessee basketball offered a 7-foot-2 center for the class of 2020. Hunter Dickinson could help be a game changer for the Vols.

Rick Barnes and the Tennessee basketball team have made a point to get bigger with the guys they are recruiting. Take a look at the 2019 class; there is only one prospect under 6-foot-6. The only play is Victor Bailey, who won’t even see the court next season.

Josiah-Jordan James (6-foot-6), Olivier Nkamhoua (6-foot-8), Drew Pember (6-foot-9), and Davonte Gaines (6-foot-7) are all at or over the 6-foot-6 mark. Barnes was even able to land Uros Plavsic, the 7-foot-1 transfer from Arizona State.

The trend continues with the offer to Hunter Dickinson. The 7-foot-2 center is ranked as the nation’s 27th highest-rated prospect, 6th highest center in the land, and the highest-rated recruit from Maryland.

Dickinson currently holds offers from Louisville, Notre Dame, Purdue, Michigan, North Carolina, Florida State, Maryland, and many more.

Obviously, size is something you can’t teach but at 7-foot-2, 255 pounds, Dickinson can take up a lot of space down low. He’s not the explosive athlete that Barnes has been recruiting lately, but Dickinson is a very smart player and always puts himself in the right positions.

Fundamentally, he’s as solid as it gets with effective defending and rebounding. Good in the pick-and-roll at sealing his guy and getting easy buckets. Maybe one of the most underrated parts of his game is his ability to hit the mid-range jumper.

So far, Dickinson has two crystal ball predictions, and both have Notre Dame as the leader. However, anything can happen in recruiting, just ask Kerry Blackshear.

Dickinson joins guys like Jaden Springer, Keon Johnson, Matthew Murrell, P.J. Hall, and Bryce Thompson who are Tennessee targets set to make their decisions. Recently we’ve talked about how the 2020 class could be the best class in program history, Dickinson would surely help make that case.
