Tennessee football already has one quarterback committed for the 2020 recruiting class. Here’s a look at where the Volunteers stand overall at the position.

Quarterback is not a question for Tennessee football heading into the 2019 season. Jeremy Pruitt has his starter in Jarrett Guarantano, and he finally has his offensive coordinator to work with Guarantano in Jim Chaney.

However, the graduation of Keller Chryst and transfer of Will McBride leaves the depth at the position wide open, and you always have to prepare for the future at the position. That’s where recruiting comes into play.

Right now, Tennessee football is set behind Guarantano with JT Shrout, a redshirt freshman from California, and Brian Maurer, a true freshman from Florida. Shrout is more built in the Chaney mold as a true drop-back passer with a big arm, but Maurer can fit in anywhere with his ability to manage tempo and his accuracy, which he put on display in the spring game.

So with a redshirt junior, a redshirt freshman and a true freshman on the roster heading into this year, Pruitt, Chaney and new quarterbacks coach Chris Weinke only have one proven signal-caller on the roster. As a result, they need to keep it up on the trail.

With the dead period underway for the 2020 recruiting class, we’re going to take a look at where the Vols stand in that regard. Currently, they do have one commitment for the class, and they are targeting others.

This post will look at their commitment and the possibility that they land somebody else in the future. We’ll name top prospects, potential prospects and prospects committed elsewhere before closing this out with a prediction and final take.

As the coaches continue to stock up at the most important position on the field, let’s go ahead and analyze where they stand. This is our evaluation of the Tennessee football 2020 recruiting class for the quarterback position at the dead period.
