Vols 2020 commitments at QB

Harrison Bailey; 4-star

6’4″ 220 lbs; Marietta, Ga.; Marietta High School

Tennessee football already has a major pickup at quarterback in Harrison Bailey. A four-star on Rivals, Bailey is a pro-style quarterback who already has great size at 6’4″ 220 pounds and good zip on his throws. Right now, he’s a top 10 player in the state of Georgia, but more importantly, he’s the No. 2 pro-style quarterback in the nation and the No. 43 player overall.

Bailey has been committed to the Vols since November of last year, but it’s good news for Jeremy Pruitt that he stayed on board, most notably after the staff reshuffling that brought on Jim Chaney and moved Chris Weinke to quarterbacks coach. In fact, that might have actually helped.

After all, Bailey is coming from Georgia, and Chaney had incredible success the last three years coaching the Georgia Bulldogs under Kirby Smart. Add in the move of Weinke, who was a national championship winning quarterback with the Florida State Seminoles and coached and played in the NFL, and Bailey may have felt that he’s the one who’s lucky.

One thing is certain, though, and that’s the fact that Bailey is not backing down or afraid of no playing time. As we said in the opening, when he arrives in 2020, he could be joining a roster that potentially has a redshirt sophomore and redshirt freshman. So he’ll have to compete for any playing time in college.

That level of confidence bodes well for quarterback, though. You need them to have the mental toughness that makes them want to compete for the starting job. As a result, Bailey’s talents may not be the only thing that make him a great commitment.
