Vols 2020 commitments at RB

Tee Hodge; 3-star

6’2″ 230 lbs; Maryville, Tenn.; Maryville High School

Tee Hodge completes all the regions of the state for Tennessee football running backs next year. The Vols have two from the Memphis area, one from the Nashville area and now Hodge, who is from East Tennessee. All of them specialize in something as well.

Hodge gives the Vols more versatility at the power back position, which is where they need help. At 6’2″ 230 pounds, he will help Jeremy Banks in that area. This is huge for Jeremy Pruitt, who now has depth and future talent at running backs with this special skill.

Despite only being a three-star, his early commitment was huge, as he helped alleviate a major concern. His 6’2″ frame may draw comparisons to Jalen Hurd, which fear some fans, but it’s a pretty certain bet that Pruitt, Jim Chaney and David Johnson actually know how to use power running backs in their system.

As a result, Vols fans should be happy about the addition of Hodge. He’ll likely take a redshirt this year with Banks already in the system, but his commitment at least sets this program up through 2022 at the power back position, and that’s something they need to make sure they’re always prepared for.

Pruitt wanted to have a collection of power backs and speed backs and run a by-committee system upon taking over the Vols. Hodge puts him in great position to do that for the future, which is why he was such a big pickup.
