Vols 2020 commitments at receiver

Jimmy Calloway; 3-star

5’11” 165 lbs; Morrow, Ga.; Morrow High School

Tennessee football has one commitment overall at receiver, and he is a wide receiver in Jimmy Calloway. A three-star out of Georgia, Calloway committed to the Vols back in April. He is a top 100 player at his position, but he did not have a national ranking.

At 5’11” 165 pounds, Calloway is clearly the type of player who would be a slot receiver. Jeremy Pruitt had trouble finding a player there last year, and Butch Jones struggled with consistency there before that. Jim Chaney will be looking for talent, so Calloway could bring more to the table than you might think. As a result, he’s a very solid commitment.

Right now, the Vols have no commitments at tight end, and Calloway is certainly not a player who could double there. Their only athlete who could potentially see any real action at receiver, is Lovie Jenkins, but he’s almost certainly going to be a defensive back.

As a result, for right now, Calloway is the one receiver committed to Rocky Top for 2020. He adds to Ramel Keyton, Jerrod Means, Jacques Jones and Cedric Tillman there. But he joins Jones as one of the only two slot receivers for the future.

Still, that’s a crucial position, and Pruitt hasn’t brought in the speed he needs there year. So Jones could definitely help out in that regard despite his lack of size. Once Tyler Byrd and Jordan Murphy are gone, don’t be surprised if he starts to see significant action.
