Evaluating Tennessee football’s 2020 recruiting class at dead period: Vols Defensive Line
Vols 2020 commitments at DT
Dominic Bailey; 4-star DT
6’3″ 290 lbs; Baltimore, Md.; St. Frances High School
The sole Tennessee football commitment right now on the defensive line after the flip of Jordan Davis is at defensive tackle, and he’s a guy who comes from the Mid-Atlantic region. UT went to Maryland to get him. Dominic Bailey committed to the Vols back in February.
At 6’3″ 290 pounds, Bailey is on track to be the proper size for Jeremy Pruitt’s 3-4 system, even if he isn’t going to be the nose tackle. Bailey is a top 30 player nationally at defensive tackle and a top 15 player overall in the state of Maryland. He is a great pickup for the Vols and brings even more to the table in the middle, really stocking the roster for the future up front.
Top elite prospects for Vols at DT
Octavious Oxendine; 4-star
6’3″ 296 lbs; Radcliff, Ky.; North Hardin High School
Tennessee football has a chance at another major four-star defensive tackle in Octavious Oxendine. A Kentucky prospect, he is down to UT, the Purdue Boilermakers and the Kentucky Wildcats, and the Rivals FutureCast has the Vols as the unanimous pick to land him while the FanFutureCast has them by a plurality. There are no 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions yet.
Omari Thomas; 4-star
6’5″ 301 lbs; Memphis, Tenn.; Briarcrest Christian High School
Continuing their pursuit at defensive tackle, Omari Thomas is already the right size at 6’5″ 301 pounds and the perfect prospect as a four-star in-state prospect, specifically from Memphis. The Vols are competing with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Arkansas Razorbacks, Memphis Tigers, Ole Miss Rebels and Texas A&M Aggies to land him. Again, there are no 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions, nor are there Rivals FutureCast predictions, but the Rivals FanFutureCast has UT as the favorite by a slight majority. As an in-state guy, Jeremy Pruitt needs to pursue him hard.
