Final Take

Tennessee football found three freshmen, two at safety and one at cornerback, who could become elite contributors for the Vols as sophomores this year. They followed that up with a historically great recruiting class in the secondary.

Now, heading into next year, they already have four more commitments on that front, three of whom are four-stars. As a result, UT is now guaranteed to have nine cornerbacks and six safeties, likely eight safeties, beyond the 2020 class if even if they don’t get another recruit.

That group will include two rising stars at cornerback along with three other four-star commitments a proven contributor at safety along with three other four-star commitments, and plenty of depth. Simply put, the Vols are loaded at cornerback for years to come.

As a result, they hardly need anybody else to commit. There are plenty of other units they need to shore up, and defensive back is not one of them. Jeremy Pruitt has stocked this class with talent and depth, and it will all show by the time 2020 rolls around.

Prediction

The Vols will scare off most other prospects out of playing time. They will only get one more commitment, and it will be either Rishard Densmore, who could play cornerback or safety, or Mordecai McDaniel, who also brings athletic versatility. Either way, their final commitment here will be a guy who can fit in where needed in the secondary.

Quite frankly, there won’t be much need for Tennessee football in the secondary for a while, though. The Vols will do well to add either Densmore or McDaniel, and that will make for five commitments and three four-stars in the secondary in this 2020 class. But they are already loaded and should be proud of what Jeremy Pruitt has put together.
