SEC Media Days beginning and former Tennessee Vols updates from the NBA Summer League lead our Volunteers news for Monday, July 15, 2019.

Happy Monday! News today marks the beginning of our lookahead to the 2018-2019 athletic year related to the Tennessee Vols. In fact, there are multiple stories related to the transition. And that makes this a very exciting time right in the middle of the summer.

Our morning update on Rocky Top is going to lead with SEC Media Days. It’s the de facto start of the college football preseason, and everybody in the southeast is ready to begin the countdown to what is basically their Christmas.

However, the end of UT players in the NBA Summer League is also a way to bring closure to the summer and start looking ahead to next year, and that’s another major story we’re going to cover here. Finally, we have a summer update on women’s golf players competing in different tournaments. But let’s start with media days.

SEC Media Days to begin MondayESPN PR, SECSports.com

With the Tennessee Vols scheduled to take the stage Tuesday, SEC Media Days begins Monday in Hoover, Ala. The Missouri Tigers will be the first team to go on, as they take the stage shortly after 1 p.m. Following them, the Florida Gators and LSU Tigers will take the stage. Commissioner Greg Sankey will kick off the event, as usual, by discussing the state of the conference.

Basketball Vols finish Summer League – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

The NBA Summer League is set to end Monday with a game between the Memphis Grizzlies and Minnesota Timberwolves. Four former Tennessee Vols played in the Summer League, and Grant Williams, Jordan Bone and Admiral Schofield have all inked contracts with the Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons and Washington Wizards respectively. All three of them and Kyle Alexander were eliminated before the semifinals.

"Bone, the 57th overall pick in last month’s NBA Draft, started for the Pistons in a 105-85 loss and scored a team-high 18 points in 25 minutes, shooting 6-for-12 from the field.…Williams started and played 31 minutes for the Celtics, finishing with 11 points, three rebounds and two assists.…Alexander started and played 29 minutes for the Heat in a 101-100 quarterfinal loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, grabbing 11 rebounds and blocking three shots while scoring six points. Schofield scored two points in seven minutes off the bench for the Wizards in a 103-87 loss to the New York Knicks in a consolation game."

Two Lady Vols golfers make headlines in summer play – UTSports

Multiple Tennessee women’s golfers have been taking part in summer events. Two of them, a current and future Vol, recently made splashes.

"Incoming freshman Nicole Whiston qualified for the US Women’s Amateur after tying for second in the field. Rising sophomore Hadley Walts advanced to the semifinals of the Indiana Women’s Match Play Championship in Indianapolis, Ind."
