From Nick Saban’s most famous defensive coordinator ever to his most famous offensive coordinator ever, Jimbo Fisher is the only guy on this list outside of Saban with a national championship. And while he’s not an SEC title winner like Kirby Smart or Gus Malzahn, he’s the fourth guy on this list to actually have a conference title.
Fisher obviously won three ACC championships while with the Florida State Seminoles. Those accomplishments alone are enough to sell what he’s done. However, his first year with the Texas A&M Aggies was a pretty big success too.
In Fisher’s first year, the Aggies were one play away from beating the eventual national champion Clemson Tigers, and they were also a play away from beating the Auburn Tigers. They easily could have gone 11-2, but 9-4 was a solid first year anyway. Fisher has already proven he’s building something there, and you can’t have gotten much more of a home run hire if you’re A&M.
