Record at Ole Miss/Overall: 11-13

Championships: 0

Postseason accomplishments: 0

Matt Luke is the only other coach along with Jeremy Pruitt who has no accomplishments yet. Once a Tennessee football assistant coach himself under Phillip Fulmer and David Cutcliffe in 2005 and 2006, Luke was the perfect hire for the Ole Miss Rebels after the Hugh Freeze saga.

Given the fact that he was 5-7 after a second year on the job in 2018, you could make the case that Pruitt belongs over him. But Luke walked into a much more difficult situation given the probation issues facing the Rebels.

Remember, Luke was able to manage a 6-6 record with those issues in 2017. That was an amazing coaching job given all the distractions. In 2018, Ole Miss showed how good they could be by dominating the Texas Tech Red Raiders. However, they suffered two heartbreakers to the South Carolina Gamecocks and Vanderbilt Commodores late in the year.

Winning one of those games would have gotten them to a postseason, which again, would be a huge accomplishment for Luke given what he took over. As a result, we have Luke slightly ahead of Pruitt for right now. Him coaching in the SEC West is also a disadvantage he faced that Pruitt didn’t have to, although the gap is narrowing on that front.
