Will Muschamp’s greatest accomplishment so far is simply owning Tennessee football. He inexplicably is 7-0 against the Vols. Anyway, while his four years with the Florida Gators are underrated in hindsight given the fact that he inherited a program wrecked by Urban Meyer, his three years with the South Carolina Gamecocks have been overrated.

In 2016, Muschamp backed into a bowl game by taking advantage of a Vols team that had its wheels come off late in the season. He then lucked out with his 9-win season in 2017, taking advantage of UT and the Florida Gators collapsing in the SEC East. The only SEC team S.C. beat with a winning record was the Missouri Tigers, and they were 7-6.

Sure, the win over the Michigan Wolverines was big. But Jim Harbaugh’s team consistently quits when playing in consolation bowl games. So Muschamp got exposed for being overrated in 2018 and stumbled to 6-7. As a result, we have him in a tier above the bottom, but he’s at the bottom of our mediocrity tier for now.
