The continuation of SEC Media Days and Tennessee Vols running back Ty Chandler on an awards watch list lead our Volunteers news for Thursday, July 18, 2019.

We’ve got one more day of coaches taking the podium at SEC Media Days, and the event continues to be relevant to the Tennessee Vols despite the fact that they took the stage Tuesday. Hey, this circus of a kickoff is always exciting.

Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with the event as a whole, and it’s not the only thing related to football for the day. We also have another player getting on an awards watch list and a football assistant receiving a raise.

Meanwhile, three other sports have news as well, including the hire of a new assistant in one sport, a coaching legend in another sport being named to a Hall of Fame, and the recognition of an overall sports program in another story. But let’s start with all the football news.

UT remains relevant at SEC Media Days – SECSports.com

SEC Media Days continued Wednesday with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Arkansas Razorbacks, Mississippi State Bulldogs and South Carolina Gamecocks taking the stage. The Tennessee Vols were relevant again at the event, this time with assistants, as MSU head coach Joe Moorhead talked about Bob Shoop’s time with UT and in Starkville, and Nick Saban talked about luring Charles Kelly from the Vols to the Tide. It’s worth noting that Hogs defensive coordinator John Chavis is another former Vols assistant. On Thursday, the event closes out with the Vanderbilt Commodores, Kentucky Wildcats and Auburn Tigers. Here’s a bit of what Saban said about Kelly on Wednesday.

"“I think Charles Kelly has been a wonderful addition to our staff. He’s very knowledgeable. He’s got great relationships in Alabama and our part of the country in terms of his experience in recruiting.”"
