SEC Media Days 2019 recap: Five takeaways relevant to Vols
5. Future SEC Media Days sites in Atlanta and Nashville
This was an announcement made by Greg Sankey on the first day of the event when he took the podium. And it’s huge news for Tennessee football. The event returned to Hoover, Ala. this year, but things will change up in the future.
With Nashville and Atlanta as specific focuses on the future spots for SEC Media Days, the Vols stand to benefit in a major way. Jeremy Pruitt can use the week to do some serious recruiting, and UT can become synonymous with the SEC presence.
Atlanta and Georgia in general is already a hotbed for recruiting and where Pruitt does a ton of his work. Nashville and the area around it, meanwhile, is growing as a hotbed as well, even if the talent isn’t close to the same level yet.
On top of that, Knoxville is right in the heart of those two cities. Sure, the Georgia Bulldogs and Auburn Tigers can benefit from it being in Atlanta. And the Vanderbilt Commodores can benefit from it being in Nashville.
The Vols, however, can benefit from it being in both. And that’s a huge deal. Pruitt and co. need to cash in on the fact that the event is heading to cities that surround Knoxville. They could sell Rocky Top in a big way. Knoxville is already in the heart of the New South triangle with those two cities and the Raleigh, N.C. area. This would only serve to benefit them further in that regard.
