Preseason for 2019 is underway. As Tennessee football tries to make a jump in Jeremy Pruitt’s second year, here are 10 Volunteers position battles to watch.

After a 5-7 season in 2018, Tennessee football is lucky to have lots of talent returning for 2019. Considering the rash of injuries in 2017 that held so many players out of spring ball and the change in systems on both sides, it was clear experience was a big issue.

As a result, the Vols enter 2019 with a lot more potential to be good, but they also enter with lots of questions. After all, now that players are healthier and more acclimated to the systems, even with the coordinator changes, it reopens position battles.

With the preseason underway, there are going to be numerous spots open for somebody to take. The combination of summer enrollees from Tennessee football’s 2019 recruiting class, the impact summer conditioning had on the guys from spring and the return to health for numerous players are all playing a role in this.

Because of this, our look at the top position battles for the Vols’ 2019 fall camp includes many spots that have a favorite but not a clear-cut leader. Due to some attrition, though, there are quite a few spots that are wide open.

Also, the top spots for competition include numerous backup and No. 2 slots. With two new coordinators, three new coaches in the system in general, and four positions under different leadership, things are pretty much up in the air.

Obviously, health will play a role in who lands a spot where. And the status of one player’s health along with another player’s eligibility status will have a huge impact on all of this. Simply put, there is a lot to hash out this fall camp.
