Tennessee football has lots of players looking to emerge as stars. Here are 10 Volunteers who should have breakout seasons in 2019.

With so many returning contributors from last year’s team, Tennessee football enters 2019 expecting lots of players to make major impacts. Some of those expectations are based on what they were able to do last year.

However, there are many Vols on this year’s team who have shown minor flashes at times but haven’t reached the explosive level they potentially could. That may be because they have ridden the bench behind more experience veterans or because they have been injured.

Whatever the case, Tennessee football will need a lot of surprise players bursting onto the scene this year in order to turn things around Jeremy Pruitt’s second season on the job. That’s the only way you come back from a 5-7 record.

In this post, we’re going to take a look at those players capable of doing such a thing. These are guys who are in the best position to become explosive playmakers for the Vols, and they either have a starting spot locked up or are a favorite for a starting spot.

None of them, though, have really made their mark on the program yet. They may have had standout games, but they have not had standout performances over a series of games to receive any real recognition.

An example of a guy who would have been on this list is defensive tackle Emmit Gooden. However, his season-ending injury has now knocked him off the list, which is incredibly unfortunate for him and the Vols.

Pruitt will be turning to all of these guys to make some sort of an impact in his system this year. Some players may be on the list because of how beneficial Jim Chaney’s pro-style offense and Pruitt’s and Derrick Ansley’s 3-4 defense would be to to those specific players.

All of these factors will have a role in what occurs with these players. But who are they? Let’s break that down here. These are the 10 Vols who should have breakout seasons for Tennessee football in 2019.
