The Tennessee Vols football program holding their second scrimmage of fall camp Saturday leads our Volunteers news for Monday, Aug. 19, 2019.

There are no more Saturdays left in which college football won’t be played. Everybody can rejoice, as the season is almost here, and news surrounding the Tennessee Vols focuses heavily on that more than anything else.

Our morning update on Rocky Top is loaded with coverage surrounding the football program, including two separate interviews with Jeremy Pruitt. There’s also an update on alcohol sales that happened right before the weekend kicked off. Simply put, it’s almost all football.

We do have one story involving another sport, in this case women’s golf. But football is still the talk of the town, and it’s what is generating all the buzz in Knoxville right now. So let’s start with covering that.

Jeremy Pruitt praised the team’s practice habits and their play in the scrimmage along with Jarrett Guarantano’s consistency, and he added that they’ll start working on some of their opponents this week. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“We’ve got guys that have played a lot of ball, that can sustain and can execute. Then we’ve got some guys that are physically ready, but for whatever reason when it comes to consistency, they’re not there yet.”"

Neyland Stadium will implement alcohol sales for Tennessee football on Saturday, Sept. 7. The Vols host the BYU Cougars that night.

"Starting on Sept. 7, beer and wine will be available at concession stands and kiosks throughout the stadium, with the exception of those near the student section. Students over the age of 21 will just have to walk a little farther. Per the SEC’s policy, there a maximum of two alcoholic beverages per transaction, and they will have to be poured into a clear plastic cup."

He touted the program and Saturday’s scrimmage again and noted that there is still a plan to attempt to allow Trey Smith to play this season. Here’s a bit of what else he said.

"“We have a lot of guys that have experience and we have several guys that are new to the program, that weren’t here during the spring, that have a lot of potential. So it’s pretty obvious the guys that have had multiple years under their belt when it comes to experience.”"
